In
an attempt to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and encourage
children to cycle to school the government
has
available a capital grant system.
Every school in England is eligible for funding of cycle shelters,
canopies and parent waiting shelters.
Primary schools can receive up to £ 3750.00 and Secondary schools up
to £ 5000.00.
Application for funding
Schools need to have a travel plan in place in order to be awarded a
grant.
The
school travel plans must meet a number of criteria and based on this
your local authority will assess your eligibility
to
qualify for funding.
As a
brief guideline your school travel plan should contain the following
information :

range of pupils
Description
of the schools location and local community
DfES

Why
are you setting up a travel plan
Travel
issues raised as a result of your surveys

your local council employ a number of school travel plan advisors who
are there to assist
with your
application.
