Smoking Shelters News

Customers to light up inside the Bar.

Officials from the local Council handed out three fixed penalty notices to smokers over the weekend.
Mr Howitt has been openly defying the smoking ban since the legislation came into effect on the 1st of July 2007. When officers recently visited the pub they found some customers still smoking and using ashtrays provided by the landlord.
Blackpool Council said its recent approach in enforcing the legislation in the area was cooperative although on this instance had no alternative but to take legal action against Mr Howitt.
"So far, we have had a very high level of compliance across the town and businesses are responding positively," a spokesperson said.
"Mr Howitt, he has been verbally informed that he has been reported for prosecution twice and investigations are ongoing.
"We are hoping to summon him to court to continue with legal proceedings against him."
Owners and managers of pubs and clubs which fail to comply with the smoking legislation can face fines of up to 00 - and individual smokers can still face a on-the-spot fine of Bars or pubs being prosecuted could also loose their licence.

THE first person caught defying the smoking ban in Bolton has been ordered to pay after appearing at court.
Mr Gerard Hart was twice spotted by council inspectors while smoking in Barristers Bar, Bolton, earlier this year.
He was issued with a fine, but refused to pay.
Mr Hart appeared before magistrates in Bolton earlier today and pleaded guilty to smoking in an enclosed public place.
He was fined , ordered to pay costs and a victim service charge.
Mr Hart of Bolton, said: "I had no choice but to plead guilty. I feel like I have been battered, like my freedom of choice has been taken away from me."
"In future though, I will smoke outside."
Mr Nick Hogan the landlord of Barristers bar has continued to allow people to smoke despite the ban which came into effect on the 1st July 2007.
He was given a written warning, but ignored it and was caught in the same pub by council officers the next day.
When he refused to pay up, the council decided to take court action.
